Molly McGlynn is a Canadian film and television director and screenwriter.She was born in Montreal and grew up in the United States and   currently lives in Los Angeles.She is most noted for her feature film debut Mary Goes Round, for which she won the Jay Scott Prize from the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Molly graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with a BA(H) in Film Studies and has a graduate certificate from Humber College in Writing & Producing for Television. She is an alumnus of the Cineplex Entertainment Film Program Writers’ Lab at the Canadian Film Centre, the Reykjavik International Film Festival Talent Lab, the Samsung TIFF Emerging Director program, and is currently one of twelve writer/directors nationally selected for TIFF Studio. In September 2017, Playback Magazine listed Molly as one of “5 to Watch”.

McGlynn began her career making short films, including Office Daydreams, I Am Not a Weird Person, Shoes, Given Your History, and 3-Way (Not Calling). In 2013, Shoes tracked the life cycle of a pair of shoes and earned her a nomination for Best Short Film at the Female Eye Film Festival. 3-Way (Not Calling)—which stars Emma Hunter, Kristian Bruun, and Emily Coutts—premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

Her first feature film, Mary Goes Round, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017 and has screened at dozens of film festivals and won multiple awards, including the Panavision Independent Cinema Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Best Feature Film at the Vail Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the Annapolis Film Festival. The film was nominated by the Directors’ Guild of Canada for awards in Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film and Best Editing in a Feature Film.

She directed all ten episodes of the award-winning, International Emmy-nominated short-form series How To Buy a Baby. Television credits include Workin’ Moms (Netflix/CBC), Little Dog  (CBC), Bad Blood (Netflix), Speechless (ABC) and Grownish (Freeform), and Bless This Mess (ABC/Hulu). She most recently was the Producing Director on Season 2 of Bless This Mess.

She is currently in development on her second feature film, Bloody Hell, with Banger Films and a television series, Penny Cuts Her Bangs with FX. In September 2020, she was named the recipient of TIFF’s Micki Moore Residency which was established for women who are outstanding Canadian feature-film screenwriters.
