Nikhil Malik is an Indian guitarist, music producer, film composer, and conceptual artist. Malik worked as a music producer on the 2014 Indian film M Cream.
Malik formed the band Blank Noize with his school friends. The band recorded their debut album in 2008 which became the year’s highest-selling album by any band.
In 2009, Malik joined Cyanide, an alternative rock band from Delhi. With Malik on their team, the band released the full-length album “Sugarcoated” in 2011. While talking to Rolling Stone India, Malik said that as a kid he loved Cyanide, and joining it was like a dream fulfilled.
He has also worked as a guitarist with the hard rock band Half Step Down.
While working as an album producer for The Uncertainty Principle(TUP), a Delhi based band, Malik was approached by Raghav Meattle, an ex-band member of TUP. Soon the duo released their first song ‘Since Memories Remain’ under the act named Meattle & Malik.
In 2019, under the alias ICONYK, Malik released the track ‘Fallin’ in May. According to Malik, he started writing the song in early 2018 and it took him a year to finally perfect the song.
As part of his music production company StudioFuzz, Malik and his partners, Arsh Sharma and Srijan Mahajan composed the music for the English film When Joker gets Joking. In 2011, the trio composed the music for the Punjabi short film Mast Qalandar.
Malik also worked as a composer, sound mixer and boom operator for the short Hindi movie Aam Kahani.
Perhaps his most notable work as a film music composer was for the movie M Cream. Malik and his partners at StudioFuzz composed all of the 6 tracks of the movie which ended up receiving wide critical acclaim and won a number of awards.
Malik has also worked as a conceptual artist for a number of music projects. In 2013, Meattle & Malik released a song “Boring I Love You” which features five deaf students who sing the song lyrics in sign language while the voice-over is done by Meattle & Malik’s vocalist Raghav Meattle. The inspiration for the song came from the real-life love story of a deaf couple. Malik dedicated this song to disabled people.
Nikhil currently resides in Juhu, Mumbai, and is unmarried.
In February 2018, Malik did a self-love photo-shoot with his friend Bhumika Bhatia. The photo-shoot featured Malik himself, and a doppelganger version of him in a series of pre-wedding style photos. The inspiration for the shoot came to Malik after the constant pressuring of his relatives for him to get married. Malik said that the purpose of the photo-shoot was to promote the importance of self-love. While talking to Indian Express about the photoshoot, Malik said, “It was a mix of too many ‘just-got-married’ posts on Facebook and the love I have for myself. It’s just a very basic (and funny) reminder for people to love themselves more often and truly appreciate themselves for who they are”.
